Pastoral MessageJune 7, 2026

From the Rector and Pastor, Father Stubna

Bishop Eckman has appointed one of the soon to be ordained priests to Saint Paul Cathedral. Effective, July 13, Father Brian Myler will begin his duties as parochial vicar at Saint Paul Cathedral parish, as well as co-chaplain for Oakland Catholic High School, Central Catholic High School and Carlow University. Deacon Brian Myler will be ordained a priest on Saturday, June 27 at 10:00 am at the Cathedral with Bishop Eckman presiding. We are very excited to receive a newly ordained priest for our parish and extend our congratulations, support, blessing and prayers upon Deacon Myler as he prepares for priesthood ordination and begins his first priestly assignment with us at the Cathedral parish. Today, Sunday, June 7 is the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, a feast that calls us to reflect on the Real Presence of Jesus in the gift of the Eucharist. Bishop Eckman is celebrating the 12 Noon Mass with the Eucharistic Procession following immediately after the Mass.

We are called as people of faith to recognize him, to receive him as heavenly food, and to offer our fitting worship and praise for his presence among us in and through the Church. The Eucharist is appropriately called the Sacrament of Love because the gift of Christ's life-giving, redeeming sacrifice on the Cross of Calvary is made present again at every Mass and we are caught up in the mystery of God's saving love given to us in his Son, Jesus Christ. The recent Eucharistic Revival in our country is calling out to each of us to have renewed faith in the real presence of Jesus in the Holy Holy Communion has many fruits: it joins us intimately to Jesus Christ and the Church; it helps to separate us from sin; it binds us to others; it commits us to the poor; it feeds us and strengthens us on our journey to heaven. To that end I call upon our parishioners to join us for a special Eucharistic procession that will take place immediately following the 12:00 Noon Mass today. We will make a loop from the Cathedral through parts of Oakland and back to the Cathedral. I hope many of us can come together for this special celebration of the Real Presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in the Holy Eucharist.

I am reminded of the words of Pope Saint John Paul II: "The Church and the world have a great need for Eucharistic worship. Jesus awaits us in this sacrament of love. Let us not refuse the time to go to meet him in adoration, in contemplation full of faith, and open to making amends for the serious offenses and crimes of the world. Let our adoration never cease." I OFTEN SINGLE OUT THE COLLEGE STUDENTS AND YOUNG ADULTS OF OUR PARISH COMMUNITY. It is my way of encouraging them in the practice of their faith and making sure that they feel welcome at the Cathedral. It is inspiring to see so many young people who have a love for Jesus Christ and the Church and who are faithful to the practice of their faith by coming to Mass and confession so regularly. This is our future and they bring a spirit of life and passion to the Cathedral parish that I know everyone appreciates and values. But in encouraging and thanking them, I trust that our more elderly and senior members of the parish Cathedral know as well how valued and important they are to our parish. You are the ones who have made our parish viable for decades and it is your long standing support and generosity, your wisdom and strong faith, that continue to inspire all of us to remain faithful to the Gospel and to become involved more deeply in the life of the Church. You are the foundation stones of the Cathedral parish and are never far from my prayers and heart as we celebrate Mass each day. May God bless you for all you have done – and continue to do – for our Saint Paul Cathedral parish family. DEACON ERIK LAMBERT PINTAR, of our parish, son of Angela and Frank Pintar, has been called by his Bishop, the Most Reverend Mark A. Eckman, D.D., to the Order of Priesthood to be conferred at an ordination ceremony to be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, in Saint Paul Cathedral Parish, Pittsburgh, PA. The ordination Mass is at 10:00 am. Fr. Pintar will celebrate his First Mass as a priest on Sunday, June 28 at 12:00 Noon at Saint Paul Cathedral which will also be televised. All are welcome to attend both the ordination and the First Mass. A light reception will follow in the Cathedral social hall. We are keeping Deacon Pintar in our prayers as he prepares for his ordination to the priesthood. What a blessing it is for our parish family as well as the whole Church.

SAINT PAUL CATHEDRAL PARISHIONERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND THE PRIESTHOOD ORDINATION MASS ON SATURDAY, JUNE 27 AT 10 AM. We can be there in force to show our support and appreciation for both Deacon Erik Pintar, son of the parish, and Deacon Brian Myler, our newly appointed parochial vicar. Let us continue to pray for both of them and all five deacons being ordained as priests for the Diocese of Pittsburgh this year.
