"Lord, do not take this child today." These are the words that Officer Pruitt kept saying while trying to save a three-year-old boy who drowned in a pool. Week after week, Officer Pruitt serves both our parish and our community, protecting the faithful while putting his faith into action. When he is not on duty in the church, Officer Pruitt is in the community protecting and preserving lives. On Friday, May 22, while on duty in the community, he received a call that a three-year-old boy had drowned in a pool at a local country club. In less than a minute and a half, he was at the child's side, performing CPR and life-saving measures while awaiting the arrival of Fire Rescue. Later, Officer Pruitt shared the experience with Father Gabriel. "It was the first time in my life that I actually saw the Lord work right in front of me," he said. "As I was working on that child, trying to get him to breathe and get the water out of his lungs, I kept saying, 'Lord, please do not take this child today.' At that moment, his eyes opened and he looked at me. I kept working harder and harder, and by the time Fire Rescue arrived, he was breathing on his own." As Officer Pruitt recounted this remarkable experience to the congregation at the 7:30 a.m. Mass, the church fell silent. Many were visibly moved by his testimony of faith, humility, and service. When he finished speaking, parishioners rose to their feet in a standing ovation, honoring not only a heroic act, but a man who had allowed God to work through him in a moment when a child's life hung in the balance. Officer Pruitt shared that while working on the child, whose eyes were looking directly at him, he kept telling him, "You are going to be okay. You are going to go and play on the playground. Stay with me." Powerful words of faith, hope, and love. But his mission did not end when the ambulance left. The following day, Officer Pruitt returned to visit the child, bringing a few treats and keeping a promise he had made during those critical moments. Just as he had told him, he found the little boy on the playground. In a world that often needs reminders of goodness, courage, and faith, Officer Pruitt's example reminds us that miracles often arrive through ordinary people who answer God's call with love and selfless service. Thank you, Officer Pruitt, for protecting our community, safeguarding our parish family, and for showing us the power of faith in action. Through your courage, compassion, and unwavering commitment to others, you remind us that God still works through ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things. The Sanctuary Lamps in our Church and Adoration Chapel burn to remind us of the presence of Jesus Christ in the Tabernacle. Parishioners may request the candles to burn for two weeks in memory or in honor of a loved one. Intentions will be published in the weekly bulletin and a beautiful card is available.
