Why does another Mass times site exist? Read my story →

Every year, usually during the summer months, the Archdiocese assigns us a particular religious order or a diocese in a foreign country for the purpose of making an appeal for us to support the missionary work of the Church. Those of us raised properly know that one of the precepts ("cardinal rules") for Catholics is to support the missionary efforts and outreach of the Church to the best of our ability.
This year, I am happy to announce, our own Father Alen will speak at all Masses on two consecutive weekends in June seeking our support of his home diocese, Pathanamthitta, in the state of Kerala, India, the same diocese which is also the home of Fr. Sam, Fr. Deny, and Fr. Lijo, who all served in our parish.
The Diocese of Pathanamthitta is one of the newest dioceses in the Church, only established in 2010. The diocese is in need of building up the Church there through the promotion of priestly and religious vocations, caring for the marginalized especially those who are mentally or physically challenged, providing proper shelter for families in need, of which there are just shy of five hundred in all, and providing palliative care for the sick and homebound. The needs are great and whatever we can do will be received most gratefully.
Father Alen will speak at St. Mary's next weekend, June 20-21, with the exception of the 4:30 PM Sunday afternoon Mass. The second collection will be for the needs of his diocese. The following weekend, June 27-28, Father Alen will speak at St. Agnes in the morning and at the 4:30 PM Sunday Mass at St. Mary's. Please be as generous as possible, even in these economically challenging times.
Many of you have seen the work going on at St. Mary's School. This summer all of the windows in the school will be replaced, and it is a project that has been talked about and planned for a number of years. The work is costly, but fortunately, we have the money needed. The current windows are sixty-five years old, energy inefficient, and aesthetically dissatisfying. When the project is completed as planned by mid-August, the school will have a fresh new look. Have a wonderful week!
Your prayers are requested for Eddie Corcoran, a young man, just twenty-one years of age, who has been diagnosed with a serious form of cancer. It is suggested that you remember Eddie by name each day in your prayers, asking for his healing. You might also ask the intercession of Blessed Michael McGivney, a priest of our own Archdiocese of Hartford, a native of Waterbury, and the founder of the Knights of Columbus. The prayer is as follows:
God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Blessed Michael McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue, may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify Blessed Michael McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
[Please report all favors received to: The Father Michael J. McGivney Guild, 1 Columbus Plaza, New Haven, Connecticut, 06510-3326.]
The priests are dedicated to serving the community and are transparent with parish finances.
